Top score for SKIDATA as EURO 2008 kicks off

11.06.08 | 12:05

SKIDATA solutions put in a perfect performance at the three premiere matches in Basel, Innsbruck and Vienna at the EURO 2008 European Football Championships.

Fans gather at St Jakob Park stadium in Basel to watch Switzerland play the Czech Republic on June 7.

A long wait for football fans all over Europe and beyond comes to an end, as the largest sports event of the year - 13th European Football Championships - finally kicked off on June 6. Since then, football fever has hit all of Europe.

Handshake makes it from kick-off to the finals

From the spectacular opening ceremony to the final whistle in the hotly contested final match, SKIDATA solutions accompany the football mega event.  Proven Handshake technology and technical service provided by market leader SKIDATA ensure that fans flocking to the stadia in Basel (which hostes the kick-off match), Innsbruck, and Vienna (the venue of the final match) get to watch more goals than (entrance) gates. Approximately 1,000 people per gate  per hour make their way into the stadia, without even noticing the complex system processes taking place during the few seconds of their admission (i.e., authorisation and re-entry checks via high-availability server connections).

Three perfect performances

As two years ago at the FIFA Football World Championships in Germany, Handshake again proved to be in top form, delivering three perfect premieres at SKIDATA's three 'home stadiums' – a veritable walk-in (in the truest sense of the word). The success is due to the untiring preparations by the SKIDATA team in co-operation with the organisers and ticketing partners.
With great routine and flexible action, SKIDATA was also able to help divert problems in access areas not covered by the Handshake system.
